HTML

Overview

If an eBook is truly just HTML, the filename should end with either .htm or .html, and you can view it in your browser just like a webpage. This kind of file can be printed and manipulated.

There were also many eBooks created in .exe format that are compiled with HTML pages. Those eBooks are executable files like other computer programs. These are generally not supported by any large companies, so they aren't carried by many large eBook retailers.

Reader Software

eBooks in this format aren't generally sold by any large companies anymore. They were popular approximately around the year 2000. eBookMall.com used to sell HTML format eBooks.
